4. How do I set an image to the prescribed size?
You will need to open this image in a photo editing programme such as Adobe Photoshop. To set the size select the "Image Size" function from the "Image" drop down menu. You may adjust either the pixel dimensions or print size in inches. In order to prevent image distortion, you should ensure that the image is being altered to scale - when you change the width the height should change automatically. If you are not comfortable using a photo editing programme - you may ask a graphic artist to make this adjustment for you.
5. What is a JPEG image
JPEG (pronounced "jay-peg") is a standardized image compression mechanism. JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group, the original name of the committee that wrote the standard. JPEG is designed for compressing either full-color or gray-scale images of natural, real-world scenes. It works well on photographs, naturalistic artwork, and similar material; not so well on lettering, simple cartoons, or line drawings. JPEG stores full color information: 24 bits/pixel (16 million colors). Therefore, with full-color hardware, JPEG images look much better than GIFs on such hardware. JPEG files are much smaller than GIFs, therefore, they are superior to GIF in terms of disk space saving and transmission time.[LANE] A JPEG picture file has an extension .jpg
6. What is a GIF image?
GIF stands for Graphic Interchange Format and it is a standard format for images that was developed by CompuServe to be a device- independent method of storing pictures. GIF allows high-quality, high resolution graphics to be displayed on a variety of graphics hardware and is intended as an exchange and display mechanism for graphic images. GIF is reasonably well matched to inexpensive computer displays, since it can only store 8 bits/pixel (256 or fewer colors) and most PCs can't display more than 256 distinct colors at once. GIF does well on images with only a few distinct colors, such as line drawings and simple cartoons. A GIF picture file has an extension .GIF.
